Thanks, it works now. I forgot to update the header and lib files in my VS2008 folder.

The examples in "Game Basics" are not running properly anymore in the latest release. As soon as the demo starts, the character falls through the floor. I guess something in physics is messed up.

That's not completely correct. This example uses Image.Import() method. This method can definitely import a PNG image. See "Tutorials\Source\Advanced\1 - Geometry, Graphics, Gui, Misc, Net, Sound\Grap...
