Check if the menu you're editing is the one loaded in the game. If it is, you can try to load the menu again, in case something got deleted by accident.

The project creator tool would be really handy for me, thanks :) edit: i noticed that the sln is saved as a UNIX file and i had to convert it to Dos\Windows using notepad++ for it to open correctly.

You can try to send a ping to each client, and if they don't reply in x time you could assume that they are disconnected.
