Lightmapping question
I tried experimenting with lightmapping today.
I made my interior model, baked its textures on one tex, used a separate UV and baked the lights. I imported it into Esenthel's ME and put the lightmap into the lightmap slot. My lightmap just adds to the darkness of the material and when I run a separate light across it in the WE, the texture is still washed out by the darkness of the lightmap. my question is, what is the difference between me having a separate image for lights when i can just bake it into the first texture?
I am making a survival game so I want the contrast from light and dark but when i bake darkness, it is impossible to re-brighten (the black corners are black regardless of the flashlight). I need a way besides adding lights to the scene since that degrades ALOT of the performance after the second light is added.

Because you're using 2nd UV tex coordinate set for the lightmap, which allows for better flexibility of the lightmap texture and UV coordinates and color texture+coordinates (also enabling you to use only 1 lightmap for multiple objects on the scene).
