Mirrored texture?
Hi!

I have a problem with my texture. It looks great in Blender but in Mesh Editor it is mirrored. Like there is an arrow which should point to the right but in ME it points to the left...
What have I done wrong?

Thanx in advance! smile

Re: Mirrored texture?
this must be an exporter issue between different coordinates systems

some exporters flip the coordinates

you can flip them back in Mesh Editor \ Material mode

Menu\Material\Texture Transform\Flip X (Ctrl+X)
or
Menu\Material\Texture Transform\Flip Y (Ctrl+Y)

Re: Mirrored texture?
Thanx for the fast reply, Esenthel!

Nope, it doesn't work. I tried to flip the texture, it doesn't look mirrored anymore but with an offset.
I'll play around with UVs in Blender, maybe I'll find a solution there.

EDIT: Well I found a solution.. kind of..
I mirrored the UVs of those sides of my mesh which didn't look correctly. It did the trick but only in ME. Now these sides of the mesh are mirrored in Blender.. hmm..

Any suggestions?

Re: Mirrored texture?
Could you send some screenshots, for example

1) how does it look in blender
2) how does it look in Mesh Editor
3) how does it look in Mesh Editor after using the texture flipping?

It would help me if I could see what you're talking about smile
Thanks!

Re: Mirrored texture?
Damn, the UVs of my mesh are of course completely mirrored, and not only particular sides of it.
I made a test and put the arrow image on every side of the mesh. Result: they are all flipped.

Lesson learned: first apply the test grid image to the mesh to test UVs and THEN post on the forum grin
Now I just have to mirror my UV map and my problem is solved.

Sorry Esenthel for taking your time :| and thanx a lot for your help!

Re: Mirrored texture?
It's me again smile

My solution is not really a solution. Mirroring UVs in Blender makes the texture look good in ME but of course not in Blender.
Now I need your help, Esenthel.

Here are some screenshots:

Mesh Editor with flipped X:

Mesh Editor with flipped Y:

I hope it helps to find a solution.

Thanx in advance wink

Re: Mirrored texture?
Hi,

what format are you using?
OBJ?

when I export to OBJ typically I just need to flip vertically (Ctrl+Y)

maybe you've flipped horizontally and then vertically,

let me know if flipping only vertically helps smile

remember that you can use flipping multiple times, which including horizontal and vertical flipping results in total 4 combinations.

Try to flip only Ctrl+Y

Re: Mirrored texture?
Yes I export to OBJ.

The screenshot above (flipped Y) shows the mesh with flipped only verticaly.
I tried to flip verticaly and horizontaly: no success.

I thought that my mesh was built incorrectly and made a default cube, unwrapped it, applied the texture: the same result.

When exporting a mesh do you make some special preparations before you export?

Re: Mirrored texture?
nope, normally I just import the OBJ, apply the textures and Flip Vertically Ctrl+Y and it's ok

if you want I can take a look at your files (blend+obj+textures) my email is available when you click on my profile, and I'll check what could be the problem, this is the first time someone mentions such an issue

thanks!

Re: Mirrored texture?
Now I tried to export to .X and it works perfectly grin and I don't have to flip anything.

Exporting to Ogre XML has the same issue: the texture is mirrored.

So, which format is better: .OBJ or .X?

I'll send you my files in a minute.

EDIT: sorry but there is no email in your profile.
